Bathrooms
It can be argued that a bathroom is the
most important room in a house. In a pinch, you can cook
in the living room or sleep in the hallway but the functions of
the bathroom cannot be performed anywhere else in the home. So in
that light, it is important to pay close attention to the bathroom,
its condition, layout and functionality.
| See standard guidelines and recommendations for
a bathroom layout, to optimize its efficiency and functionality,
at National
Kitchen & Bath Association. Bathrooms you see should
be close to the guidelines. |
Bathrooms descriptions in real estate ads are another
gray area. A full bathroom must have a toilet, sink, tub and shower.
A three quarter bathroom has a toilet, sink and shower. A half bathroom
is a toilet and sink without a bathing facility. Many descriptions
tend to round off the number to the higher whole, so an advertised
two bathroom may really be one and a half or one and three quarters.

An exhaust fan is a must in bathrooms. This is to
prevent possible mildew and other moisture damage from steamy showers
or baths. In our county it is a building code requirement and all
the homes I saw had one.
